How To Write An Essay

I am astonished how many school children lack the ability to write an essay.  My kids for example.

Growing up with blue collar parents I received little help with my homework.  I was fortunate to have a teacher in junior high that subscribed to the (kiss) theory.  Keep It Simple Stupid.

Here is the secret:   

1.  Identify your subject.  Make it very specific.  As an example I will do an essay on Leap Frogs.

2.  Tell the reader what your are writing about.  Leap Frogs Are Not Endangered.

3.  Tell the reader about Leap Frogs and why they are not endangered.  Leap frogs are abundant as I witness leap frog activity continually in the school yard playground................................

4.  Add a few facts from authoritative sources.  Wiki  whatever sites several examples of Leap Frog activity......................

5.  End your essay the same way you started it.  Leap Frogs are not endangered as you can see from the facts I have listed above.  Furthermore I hope each and every student will help to keep Leap Frog activity alive and well.

Tell them what you are going to say-tell them-tell them what you told them.  (TTT)
